Autumn Term 2024 : I wonder why soap makes bubbles?

The start of the new academic year saw us begin with a science question - the children thoroughly enjoyed making bubbles to blow during the summer so it seemed a natural choice to continue with this enquiry in September. Whilst we continued with the idea of the children practising and perfecting what they already know, we also hoped that they would learn new skills as well as learning to predict an outcome and learn to record their findings in a range of ways.

As well as making lots of soapy water to blow bubbles and experimenting with a floating and sinking activity, one of the main delights during this enquiry was picking the runner beans and collecting the fallen apples. We cut open the beans to see what was inside and we used the apples to make an apple crumble. One of the many new skills that the children learned was using a knife safely to cut the beans and the apples.
